Hey, Queens!
Last week hit me hard. Between mom duties, friend duties, and just being a human, it was a whirlwind. I found myself juggling the academic concerns of our kids with some heavy, emotional news within my circle. This mix of challenges really got me thinking about the importance of managing stress—not just for us mommies but really for anyone trying to navigate this hectic world.
So, I want to share some personal reflections and tips on how I handle the stress that life throws my way, especially during these trying times.
The Three Cs of Managing Stress
Managing stress effectively can sometimes feel like an elusive goal, but I’ve boiled it down to what I call the “Three Cs”: Consumption, Company, and Calamity.
1. Consumption
What we put into our bodies can have a huge impact on how we feel both mentally and physically. Recently, I’ve been exploring the benefits of matcha tea. It’s packed with antioxidants, helps reduce inflammation, and can lower blood pressure. I enjoy it with a splash of soy milk—it’s my little ritual that sets the right tone for my day.
And it’s not just about what we drink—it’s about whole, nutritious foods. Sweet potatoes, blueberries, and eggs are staples in my diet because they provide the nutrients my body needs to fend off stress. Remember, eating healthily and consuming things that make your soul feel good work together to help reduce stress.
2. Company
The people we surround ourselves with can influence our stress levels more than we sometimes realize. Having a solid support system, like the women in my circle, helps me through tough days. Whether it’s a quick chat or a long vent session, connecting with them gives me strength and perspective.
And let’s not forget about the little gatherings or even the occasional cocktail night (responsibly, of course). These moments of joy and relaxation are crucial for mental health.
3. Calamity
When life feels overwhelming, finding your calm is key. For me, that means lacing up my sneakers and hitting the pavement or unrolling my yoga mat to find my zen. Physical activity not only boosts your mood but helps regulate your body’s stress responses.
Mindfulness and meditation are also part of my stress relief toolkit. Taking even just a few minutes each day to focus on deep breathing can transform a hectic day into a manageable one. And if you’re new to meditation, don’t worry—start small, and you’ll feel the benefits.
Wrapping Up
So, there you have it—my approach to tackling stress. Whether it’s through what we consume, the company we keep, or finding calm in the chaos, remember, you’re not alone. We’re in this together, and every step we take towards managing stress is a step towards a healthier, happier life.
